A bit about me
I was born in North Bristol and became a Christian at the age of thirteen in a local Pentecostal church, the Church of God of Prophecy in Easton, where I attended with my parents and sisters. I am a committed pastor, church leader and Christian teacher who brings a wealth of professional, pastoral and academic experience to my ministry.
Alongside my wife, Maureen, I have served in pastoral ministry for over thirty years. I currently pastor churches in Bristol and Bath and supervise churches across the South West Region. I am also honorary treasurer for four charities and work closely with church leaders across the city of Bristol, leading a city-wide church leaders’ prayer network.
Before entering full-time pastoral ministry, I had a thirty-six-year career as an accountant within the NHS, rising to senior management level. For most of those years, I worked bi-vocationally, learning to balance my time and energy between my professional career and pastoral ministry.
Maureen and I have been married for forty years. We have two daughters and a son, as well as a son-in-law, a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. Academically, alongside my professional accountancy qualifications, I hold an MSc in Financial Management from the University of the West of England. In 2023, I was honoured to become the inaugural recipient of Trinity College’s Jubilee Scholarship, which enabled me to pursue an MA in Theology, Ministry and Mission awarded by Durham University, which I completed with Merit.
My research interests
Church Leadership
My master’s dissertation examined how gender and race intersected to shape women’s leadership experiences within Pentecostal-Charismatic churches, with a primary emphasis on gender. I explored the theological and historical development of male-dominated leadership, the barriers experienced by women, particularly women of colour, and the movement’s changing approach to leadership diversity. Through historical research, biblical analysis and a denominational case study, my work considered how these dynamics affected the Church’s mission, witness and leadership.
Evangelism
I am currently preparing a PhD proposal exploring cross-cultural and intercultural approaches to evangelism in contemporary Britain. I am passionate about learning more about the various approaches to and practices of evangelism within our own British context.
Bi-vocational Ministry
As an increasing number of Christian ministers work bi-vocationally to support their ministry financially, I am keen to explore ways of supporting their personal and ministerial development through programmes such as the Pastor’s Development Programme.
