Revd Dr David John Hart, BEd, BA, MTh, PhD

David Hart is a Methodist minister who has served in a variety of appointments including as an Army Chaplain for eleven years.

Dr Hart’s recent published work includes a paper on the post-mortem biographies of John Wesley, published in Methodist History in 2012. He co-edited, with David Jeremy, Brands Plucked from the Burning, the papers of the 2011 Wesley Historical Society Conference entitled ‘Memory and Memorialising in Methodism,’ which was published in 2013. In addition, a paper on baptism and regeneration in early Methodism is due to be published in Wesley and Methodist Studies in 2016.

Dr Hart is a member of the Methodist Heritage Committee and chairs its Archive and Record Advisory Group. He is a past member of the committee of the Ecclesiastical History Society. His research interests focus on the social impact of early Methodism and the evangelical revival, and on Methodist organisation in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. Currently, he is preparing a book for publication by Ashgate on the relationships between Calvinist and Arminian Methodism between 1740 and 1790.
