Revd Prof Craig Bartholomew, DipTh, BTh, MA, PhD

Professor Craig Bartholomew is one of our Senior Research Fellows and an Associate Faculty member. He’s based in Canada, but is involved in our research supervision and visits us for teaching.

Craig Bartholomew is currently H. Evan Runner Professor of Philosophy and Professor of Religion and Theology at Redeemer University College in Ontario, Canada. He was born in Kwa Zulu Natal, South Africa and studied theology in the University of South Africa and Oxford University. He was ordained in the Church of England in South Africa in 1986.

He gained his doctorate through Bristol University, studying under our own Dr Gordon Wenham, looking at the interrelationship of philosophy, literary theory and Old Testament hermeneutics, focused exegetically on readings of Ecclesiastes. His book Where Mortals Dwell: a Christian view of place for today (Baker Academic) won the 2012 Canadian Christian Writing Award in the ‘Nonfiction Book – Academic’ category.

His main areas of research are postmodernism and biblical interpretation, derrida and biblical interpretation, Old Testament wisdom, the relationship between theology and philosophy and biblical interpretation and a Christian view of place.
